Plus-size women have a variety of stores and websites at their disposal to buy fashionable clothes. However, women who need wide width boots have very few options on the Internet. There are even fewer in retail outlets. Ladies with naturally large calves don't have to bypass trendy boots but they do have to work harder to find them. Follow these steps to find boots to fit your wide calves.
Measure your calf's circumference at its widest point and use that for a guide when ordering from a web store. If your size falls between two sizes, order the larger one. Some of the pricier retail outlets have shoe salesmen who are familiar with special sized boots and shoes. You might want to check out their shoe salons before ordering from a website.
Investigate websites like Shoemall and Zappos. They carry a good selection of wide-width boots. However, if you are looking for fashionable boots, you may not have much luck. Many of the styles are plain and stretch boots seem to be the norm.
Ask your shoemaker about custom boots if you are looking for an unusual style or have a medical problem like edema. The largest available ready-made boots have a 22-inch calf size, so anything wider needs to be specially made.
Invest in a pair of Ugg or sheepskin boots. Unlike most boots they run a little large and the calf area is roomier. Even a regular size sheepskin boot may work for a lady with large calves.
Buy leather boots with panels that can be expanded by a shoemaker. Strips of leather or other material can be added to boots that don't have panels, but the process is much more involved and expensive.
